Are expenses required to be associated with a project?

No. Although you have the option to associate an expense with a project, it is not required. In fact, most of the expenses you record in Harpoon more than likely won't be associated with a project at all, and instead are simply the cost of doing business (e.g. equipment, supplies, office rent, etc.).
